SSpiro nomenclature
A spiro compound is characterized by two or more rings that share a single carbon atom.
Spiro Compounds have a prefix spiro which represent two rings with a spiro junction.
- Numbering in spiro starts from smaller ring but not on spiro junction carbon adjacent to spiro then towards the larger ring.
- In square brackets carbon numbers are added but in increasing order, first we add small ring carbon number then large ring carbon numbers leaving spiro junction carbon.
